I'm in Hawaii!

I've been in Hawaii all week for military training. There's a possibility of us being deployed here to Hawaii for a year, starting in the fall. I almost feel weird complaining about something that like, but I am scheduled to be completely out by May 2011, about halfway through the tour. I really don't feel like spending an extra six months in the Army. Not to mention, I don't know if I could do a year away from BP. Five days was too long.

One thing this trip has done has made me very excited to come back next month. The weather here is great and it's beautiful, we've just been working a lot and I really haven't been able to get out and see things. We come back on March 18, right after I get back from Chicago for my mom's transplant.

Yes, on that note, my mom now has a kidney donor. A lady I know at work who I don't even know very well asked how she could be tested as a donor after I told her I was not a match. I put her in touch with my mom, and several months later, here we are! It's been pretty exciting and quite a blessing and surprise. I think being willing to give a body part to a total stranger is an amazingly selfless act. I still can't believe it, but I am very happy for my mom and excited for her opportunity to get back to having a more normal life and feeling healthy again for the first time in several years.

Well, time for bed. I have to be up at the crack of dawn again and then up all day and then taking off on an overnight flight home.

Great news about the kidney! You'll all be in my prayers.

I'm really excited for the next trip to Hawaii, the one where I'm a tourist and not playing Army, and with my boy!
